The following products are Veeam’s primary backup solutions:

Veeam backup and replication

Veeam Backup & Replication is the flagship product of Veeam’s platform. More than 400,000 customers around the world use it to protect data against cyberattacks and quickly recover information and systems. Veeam offers more than 100 cloud and storage integrations, aiming to avoid vendor lock-in and offer an infrastructure-agnostic solution to customers. The variety of supported infrastructures provides flexibility for companies with multiple storage and compute platforms that need to back up all of their systems.

Backup data is automatically scanned by malware detection technology. Data systems that can be recovered include data base, virtual machine (VM)files and folders, and operating systems (OS). For object storage systems, administrators can define per-level policies for backing up archive data.

Veeam offers backup for the following environments:

  • Physical systems: including Network Attached Storage (NAS) deployments
  • Cloud environments: including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud and Kubernetes
  • Virtual environments: including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV and Red Hat
  • SaaS deployments: including Salesforce, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365
  • Applications: including high-performance workloads, like SAP HANA and Kubernetes

Veeam offers three different product packages:

  • Veeam Backup & Replication, Community Edition; free up to 10 workloads
  • Veeam backup and replication
  • Veeam Availability Suite

The Availability Suite offers monitoring, reporting and analysis capabilities, as well as intelligent diagnostics and remediation options. These features help businesses that need to regularly report backup processes to management. For businesses that want more detailed analytics and recommendations for backup and recovery, Veeam offers an advanced plan.

Veeam also offers Disaster Recovery Orchestrator as a disaster recovery (DR) add-on package for the Backup & Replication and Availability Suite product. It includes failover orchestration to automate recovery processes, DR tests to predict possible outcomes of a recovery attempt, and automatically generated DR documentation. The DR add-on is suitable for businesses that can afford the add-on and want automation and testing functionality in their disaster recovery solution.

Backup as a Service and Disaster Recovery as a Service

Veeam also offers Backup as a Service (BaaS) and Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS), enabled by Veeam Cloud & Service Provider Competency partners.

Veeam BaaS includes offsite and managed backup strategies for Microsoft 365 Apps. Veeam DRaaS allows enterprises to enable failover for a specific set of VMs or an entire site.

Use cases for Veeam

Thai insurance company Dhipaya saw the benefits of Veeam’s backup product after prioritizing the shift to digital insurance: many of its customers wanted to transact online. Dhipaya wanted to provide a strong data protection infrastructure, according to Surachai Viboonkitchod, director of information system and network administration at Dhipaya.

“Data is at the heart of our business,” says Surachai. “We need to be sure that our data backups are available in case any of our data is damaged or lost. This is of utmost importance as compromised data can disrupt our business operations resulting in huge losses. We need a solution that can protect our data and minimize the risks associated with business operations.

“After choosing Veeam as our IT partner, we were able to establish a framework to define a new strategy, and we could immediately see clear results. While we initially chose Veeam for its reliability, Veeam has also been able to meet our product efficiency requirements. The time we spend on IT work has decreased, leading to lower costs, while our operational performance has increased. »

For Dhipaya, backing up his data to AWS is a straightforward process.

“Veeam can seamlessly integrate and back up AWS data. We don’t have much to do beyond just enabling it,” Surachai says.

“Veeam also has work monitoring technology to reduce the burden on administrators, which facilitates the work of the team, reduces the burden of data verification and produces and stores reports for audit verification, which improves business confidence in another way. … Veeam’s costing methodology is simple and covers all the work from the start.

Dhipaya’s backup and recovery became 99% more efficient after partnering with Veeam, including backing up large volumes of data every two hours. Dhipaya’s uptime efficiency also increased to 99% with Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) of 15 minutes or less.
