USFL score, highlights: New Orleans Breakers top Tampa Bay Bandits in 34-3 win

The New Orleans Breakers dominated to win the inaugural Breaker Bay Brawl, defeating the Tampa Bay Bandits, 34-3.

The Breakers’ offense pushed the tempo early in the game, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. The Bandits responded with a blocked field goal followed by a field goal, Tampa Bay’s only score of the game.

New Orleans was solidly in control on both sides of the ball. Their defense picked up a fumble and two interceptions, both of which led to points on the board. The Breakers allowed just 195 yards, 65 passes and 130 rushing.

Meanwhile on offense, quarterback Kyle Sloter completed 25 passes to eight different receivers for 266 yards, including one amazing one-handed grip by jonathan adams. Running backs Jordan Ellis and TJ Logan led the team in rushing, combining for 107 yards.

New Orleans Breakers and Tampa Bay Bandits head coaches

Two different coaching paths were on display this week. Both head coaches are known for their attacking prowess, but at different levels. New Orleans Head Coach larry fedora served as a varsity coach from 1991 to 2020. He coached at Southern Miss from 2008 to 2011, leading the Golden Eagles to four consecutive Bowl games and a school-record 12 wins during the 2011 season. North Carolina head coach Fedora led the Tar Heels to their first appearance in an ACC Championship game in 2015.

Meanwhile, the bandits are led by Todd Haley, who spent 22 seasons as an NFL coach, including three seasons with the Chiefs. He worked as an offensive coordinator for the Cardinals, Steelers and Browns. The Cardinals appeared in Super Bowl XLIII during his tenure. Haley also coached with the Bears and Cowboys.
