NEW YORK, NY, February 02, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ — Yes, by far, Clyde Adams’ efforts have been herculean and unparalleled. His pro bono work to preserve the photographic portfolio of 20th century advertising photographer Murray Korman is done out of love for the beautiful historical images created by a man Clyde has never met. In fact, when Korman died in 1961, Clyde was still a boy. And it would be decades before Clyde heard of Murray Korman.
Therefore, kudos to Clyde for his extraordinary efforts to revive and preserve Murray Korman’s photographic legacy. If not for Clyde’s efforts, the Murray Korman photographic collection might still lie untouched in the closet of a New York apartment. Adams was captivated by the story and the images that Murray Korman produced so many years ago. He spent hundreds of hours scanning Korman’s family’s 600 deteriorated negatives, created a website, wrote Murray Korman: The One Big Name, and is still working on finishing Vintage Babes of Broadway.
From a recent interview:
Clyde, can you tell us what fascinated you about Broadway publicity photographer Murray Korman to stay with this project for the long term of ten years?
“My fascination took a long time to build, but it is on several levels. I have long had a fascination and admiration for the generation or generations of Americans who lived through the 20th century, especially the turn of the century. But specific to Murray, his incredible rise to prominence in his profession and in the New York arena, as an immigrant, really captured my fascination. This rise to fame, coupled with his tragic fall into obscurity, is what Hollywood screenwriters dream of…”
“What would you say to ‘book lovers’ who enjoy reading non-fiction historical biographies why they might enjoy ‘Vintage Babes of Broadway?’
“In terms of the brief biographies of Murray Korman’s subjects, I think readers will be surprised by the number of very famous and recognizable names in the entertainment world. And, I believe that readers will also be fascinated by the number of those stars who overcame extremely difficult circumstances to achieve their fame.Life in those days was far more difficult than we can comprehend or appreciate.
Clyde’s skills in graphic design, book design, research and writing allowed him to bring the project together to make an enjoyable read in the second book “Vintage Babes of Broadway: Through the 20th Century Lens of Murray Korman”. Its co-author Maureen McCabe has participated in various projects where she was needed. Publication is scheduled for June 2022.
Clyde is the author of Always a Marine, a book documenting his father’s experiences during World War II, and Murray Korman: The One Big Name, the extended life story of 20th century publicity photographer Murray Korman.
