When it comes to personnel and how a specific coach likes to build the roster, just about every NFL coach has certain criteria they follow when evaluating potential prospects. Mike McCarthy is no exception to the rule. Over the years, since becoming head coach with the Green Bay Packers he has shown certain tendencies when targeting a particular position, especially when it comes to wide receiver.

As we all know, McCarthy is an offensive-minded head coach. His coaching experience has always been on the attacking side of the ball and it is that experience that has made him the coach he is today. Now he knows how to put together a roster and the types of players he prefers at a specific position. Today we’ll be focusing our attention on the wide receiver where the Dallas Cowboys could be looking for potential replacement Michael Gallup.

McCarthy’s preference for the wide receiver is the type of information that might be useful in the next 2022 NFL Draft when targeting a possible replacement for Michael Gallup. But what are McCarthy’s trends and which WRs fit his criteria this year?

The wide receivers McCarthy drafted as head coach

  1. Greg Jennings (5’11”, 198)
  2. Corey Rogers (5’11”, 188)
  3. James Jones (6’1″, 208)
  4. David Clowney (6’1″, 190)
  5. Jordy Nelson (6’3″, 217)
  6. Brett Swain (6’1″, 200)
  7. Randall Cobb (5’10”, 195)
  8. Charles Johnson (6’2″, 217)
