RR chooses to play, Ferguson back for KKR
The Rajasthan Royals took the first step that Mumbai would have liked them to take, and that is to deny KKR what they would have wanted: to hunt. Sanju Samson won the toss and asked KKR to strike first. However, KKR had much to celebrate in the draw: Eoin Morgan announced that Lockie Ferguson was in good shape and replaced Tim Southee. It was their only change.
The Royals made four changes, only one of them forced. Evin Lewis sat down with a rebuke, making way for Liam Livingstone. Jaydev Unadkat, Chris Morris and Anuj Rawat replaced Shreyas Gopal, David Miller and Kuldip Yadav.
Your move, KKR
PBKS has therefore had a say in what looks like its final day of the tournament. They beat CSK in 13 overs, taking their net winning rate over the Mumbai Indian which in theory gives them a chance, but they will still need KKR and MI to lose. And that’s how badly they want KKR to lose: chasing 180, if KKR loses by 71, their net run rate will always be ahead of PBKS.
So KKR doesn’t worry about PBKS when they go out tonight. They will be worried about MI. They don’t want to find themselves in a situation that they hope MI loses tomorrow. They want to win against RR tonight and ensure their progress. Mix it up a bit.
