Early morning thunderstorms, heat break

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Hello bloggers,

Thunderstorms were moving through the KC metro area this morning. Very heavy rain is falling in these red and orange radar echoes. These will weaken over the next two hours, but if you find yourself in one an inch of rain may fall. Areas east of an Excelsior Springs to Peculiar, MO line may be on the edge of these cells.

After the passage of these morning thunderstorms, the weather will be cloudy. A weak front is moving in and temperatures will likely be about 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. There is a slight chance that thunderstorms will re-develop later this afternoon and evening. If thunderstorms do develop, they could be severe between approximately 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Here is the thunderstorm area just 17 minutes later:

I added up all the numbers for this week and subtracted the numbers for last week. The total comes to 177. So in some ways we can say it was 177 degrees warmer this week than last week if my forecast holds true. Anyway, what a change from the first week of May to the second week of May.

It will take at least a week before doing another 90 degree run. We will be monitoring the weather situation closely, so stick with KSHB-41 and we’ll keep you posted.

Thank you for spending a few minutes of your day reading the weather blog and sharing this weather experience. Have a good Friday.
