Blog: I’m probably on a ferry with McDreamy right now (8/5/22)

As you read this, I’m on vacation. As with all vacations, I’m in Washington State with my family. This time I am staying mainly with my second son, who lives with his wife and children on five acres in the state capital, Olympia.

Their home has a guest house and I brought my cat, Meep, so I assure you I’m the most comfortable here in the best state in the country.

In twenty minutes, I can be in the heart of a multicultural city, deep in a forest on a well-travelled path, or relaxed on a beach. I love it here, it was a great place to grow up. The temperature never reaches the hellish heights of the Midwest, and even though it’s hot, there’s no humidity to marinate you in your own sweat.

When it’s cold, it’s the perfect weather for sweaters. No need to layer long johns and parkas with a ski goggle and hand warmers. The pipes can freeze, but it is unlikely.

It’s the hottest part of summer here in August, and the kids don’t go back to school until after Labor Day, so the grandkids and I will have plenty of time for Play-Doh, painting with your fingers and invent songs about farts. We have the same sense of humor, so it’s fun.

Do I miss Indiana?

No, unlikely. But I sure miss my friends there. Even my acquaintances in Indiana are cool, I’m so lucky with my buddies in the Midwest, so lucky to have as many as my buddies.

That’s one thing I don’t have in the Pacific Northwest, I don’t have any friends here (the fiddlers). All my friends from youth have either moved away or gone offline.

Sooooo I’m going to hang out with my family, which sounds pretty damn good. I will love the weather and the natural beauty all around me. Hanging out with my cat, who is literally my best friend.

Visiting my sister, who is my only living brother, to receive heaped portions of the shit I once distributed evenly among the five. She loves it, or at least that’s what I tell myself anyway. She keeps taking my calls, so I guess she does.

The truth is, I love her like crazy. Bullshitting her is just my charming way of telling her.

See you next week here. I think I will write my next column there.
