Arlington Public Schools Letter to Incoming Kindergarten Families

Online registration for kindergarten will open on Thursday, February 3, 2022.

In Arlington, some families live in “buffer zones,” which allows the district to balance elementary school sections and enrollments. More information on buffer zones is provided later in this notice. All registrations completed (submitted and approved by the Registration Team) between Thursday, February 3 and Sunday, February 13 at midnight will receive buffer zone decisions by March 14.

Registration Information

Parents/guardians will need to complete the online New Student Registration Form for the school year they wish to register. Registration will be done through PowerSchool Enrollment. The registration page on provides direct links to the registration form and provides answers to frequently asked questions.

In the form, you will have the possibility to provide and answer the following elements:

  • Student registration information, family demographics, emergency contacts, health questionnaire and permissions.
  • Responsible Use Policy Agreement, Education History and Home Language Survey.

You will need to provide certain supporting documents required to complete your application. These documents are needed to prove Arlington residency, verify the age of your child(ren), recognize compliance with health regulations, and ensure proper enrollments. It is best to gather the required documents before completing the application. Please refer to the registration checklist at to prepare the appropriate documents.

If you do not have all the forms ready when you complete the application, you can still submit the form online. however, your application approval will not be valid until all documentation has been received by the Registrar. A member of the registration team will contact you to obtain these documents.

You can also visit our new Student District webpage at with more information on required documents and how to upload these documents.

Due to construction and space constraints, in-person registration assistance is available by appointment only during the month of February; to schedule an appointment, please call or email the registration desk at [email protected] or 781-316-3674. Beginning March 1, the registration desk will offer walk-in hours (see below). Any updates will be posted on the registration page.

Opening of the registration office without appointment from Tuesday March 1: Monday 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Visitors must come to the main school office to register. For details on office location and check-in instructions, see the school’s main page at

Additional information for students/families in the buffer zone

Students who live in the buffer zones will be assigned to their school by the superintendent. You will receive notification of your buffer zone allocation shortly after it has been decided. Whenever possible, students will be assigned to their school of preference. If primary selection has not been chosen, parents will have the option of placing their child on a waiting list for the school of their choice. If there is more than one waitlist request on a particular date, the waitlist will be determined by the date of registration and then by lottery. For more information on buffer zones, please see:

School Information

Once your application has been submitted and approved, you will then be directed to the individual teams at the school where your child will attend. They will be in touch with you regarding screenings, academic matters, or with details of when your child will meet the teachers for the upcoming school year. If you have not received confirmation of your registration approval, please continue to monitor communications from the registration office.

Information on how to enroll in each school’s after-school programs is available at

If you haven’t heard of individual school teams directly, the best place to find all available information will be on the school-specific home pages on our district website at

We look forward to our partnership with you in your child’s education.

— Elizabeth Homan, Superintendent of Schools
